Abstract

Although there has been little if any discussion of Mormon environmentalism outside
the tradition, it is increasingly apparent that such an ethic does exist—though
whether this ethic is with or against the current of formal LDS teaching is less
clear. This article provides an overview of contemporary Mormon ecological thought
and its roots within the LDS tradition, and highlights some of the tensions connected
with environmental issues within the Mormon community today in Utah
and elsewhere.
