Abstract
Mountain Hat was made to catch the thought of Lake George, Weerewa, as I speed past. The small, sewn landscape resting in the hat explores relationships between representational depictions of outdoors locations and subjective experiences of these places. The hat, worn in cold winds, evokes a physical experience outdoors, while the soft mountains are an idea of the place, scooped up in the bowl. Through composition, imagery and materiality, Mountain Hat links subjective nature of memory with the lake in a constant state of flux, guardian to millions of years of change, made new in every eye that sees.
