    Abstract

A flexible multichannel spectroscopic diagnostic was developed for the H-1 heliac to study the partially ionized plasma in different working gases. The electron and neutral density profiles in argon plasmas were measured. The diagnostic was used to characterize the transport coefficients in low- and high-confinement regimes in H-1.
