Abstract

The presence of multiphoton excitations based on a high-spin intrinsic state in the deformed nucleus 182Os was discussed. Multiquasiparticle Nilsson-model calculations based on a fixed shape were performed for 182Os. Experimental data was compared with tilted-axis cranking calculations, supporting the vibrational interpretation. It was proposed that in a well-deformed nucleus at high angular momentum, the γ-vibrational energy can become lower than the rotational energy, albeit with complex admixtures.
