    Abstract

Photonic band gap structures containing multiple defects exhibit interesting coupling effects. We investigate these effects numerically. It is possible to modify modal widths by coupling to various layers. We show that this can be done efficiently by studying output correlations. It may be possible to reduce insertion loss in devices by using this method to tailor the mode spot size.
