Abstract

Text by one of last Ottoman Grand Muftis, Mustafa Sabri, discussing modern Islamic theology in light of challenges from European philosophy, secularism and nationalism, as well as new trends within Islam. As the last of his books, published in 1949, Mawqif al-ʿAql is the summation of his thought after engaging in fierce debates over religion and state in Late Ottoman Istanbul, and then from exile in Greece and finally Egypt, where he died in 1954.
