New larval food plants for some butterflies (Papilionoidea) from Australia

Abstract

New larval food plants are reported for 15 species of butterflies from Australia. Food plants include
Terminalia volucris (Combretaceae) for Badamia exclamationis (Fabricius); Poa sieberiana for
Atkinsia dominula dominula (Plötz), Alloteropsis semialata for Pelopidas lyelli lyelli (Rothschild),
Microlaena stipoides for Argynnina cyrila Waterhouse & Lyell, and Oplismenus hirtellus for
Hypocysta metirius Butler (all Poaceae); Gahnia clarkei (Cyperaceae) for Hesperilla idothea idothea
(Miskin); Capparis lasiantha for Elodina padusa (Hewitson), and Capparis ornans for Elodina
queenslandica kuranda De Baar & Hancock (both Capparaceae); Euchiton japonicus (Asteraceae)
for Vanessa kershawi (McCoy); Evolvulus nummularius (Convolvulaceae) for Junonia villida villida
(Fabricius); introduced Oxalis corniculata (Oxalidaceae) for Lucia limbaria (Swainson); Cassytha
glabella (Lauraceae) for Erina hyacinthina hyacinthina (Semper); Xylocarpus moluccensis
(Meliaceae) for Hypolycaena phorbas phorbas (Fabricius); Epacris rhombifolia (Ericaceae) for
Neolucia hobartensis monticola Waterhouse & Lyell; and Aphyllodium biarticulatum (Fabaceae) for
Famegana nisa (Wallace)
