Abstract
The non-Newtonian rheology of a microscopic sample of simple fluid was analyzed using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. A configurational thermostat was used to perform the calculations. A shear thickening regime under steady shear, and a strain thickening regime under oscillatory shear at low frequencies were observed. The results show that shear thickening can occur even in the absence of solvent.
