    Abstract

The nonlinear Aharonov-Bohm effect on optical vortices is discussed. The experimental study of the vortex-stripe interaction by use of a cw Ti:sapphire laser and a defocusing nonlinear medium composed of atomic-rubidium vapor was performed. The presence of the vortex induced a phase difference that was proportional to the vortex circulation which led to the asymmetric amplitude modulation.
