Abstract
A simple all-optical switch based on a bent nonlinear planar waveguide is suggested. It is shown that the nonlinear bent waveguide allows effective and controllable switching characteristics, and the switching avoids problems associated with the phenomenon of multisoliton emission. The main advantage of this nonlinear device is shown to be a significant reduction of the switching distance in comparison with the corresponding straight waveguide.
