Abstract
This chapter reviews the physics and applications of nonlinear processes in resonant dielectric nanostructures. The focus is placed on the nonlinear phenomena stemming from the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. We explain the unique physics arising from using nanostructured materials, including strong enhancement in ultra-thin materials, the ability to generate any output polarization and the ability to control the directionality of nonlinear emission. We further review the applications of such phenomena, including nonlinear infrared imaging and sensing.
