Abstract
We study nonlinear surface modes at the edge of metal-dielectric nanostructured metamaterial with a nonlinear surface layer. We demonstrate that such semi-infinite structures can support transverse electric (TE) polarized surface states with subwavelength localization near the surface, an optical analogue of the Tamm states, even in the cases when the surface modes do not exist in the linear regime.
