Abstract
MHD interaction has been investigated in the last years as an advanced tool for flow control for aerospace applications, with special regard to heat load and drag reduction. This paper deals with the numerical rebuilding of the experimental data from test campaigns carried on at the Italian Aerospace Research Center in the frame of different projects related to this topic. Two numerical codes have been used to simulate the flow field around blunt bodies tested in wind tunnel, and the results have been compared with the experimental data in order to validate the numerical models. The simulations results are analysed in detail in the present paper, emphasizing the importance of a correct estimation of the plasma conductivity and of a detailed analysis of the interaction phenomena.
