    Abstract

Project managers in different countries run projects of similar nature, but in
different ways. This paper presents the results of the first vast project
management survey held in New Zealand, and compares project
management capabilities in New Zealand with other Asia Pacific countries.
Data have been collected from 752 project managers and their supervisors in
New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan, Israel, and India. Significant
differences have been found among these countries. New Zealand project
managers are ranked third out of the six countries investigated. The
differences have also been found in the focus of project managers in different
countries. For example, it has been found that New Zealand project managers
pay relatively more attention to “Communication” management, as compared
with project managers from different countries. Analysing industry types, it has
been found that project managers from different industries focus on different
    project management processes.
