Abstract

This chapter reviews the past, present and future of occupational heat exposure, warning that the interaction of neoliberalism (market-driven economics), anthropogenic climate change and the urban heat island effect is a combination that already harms the health of millions of vulnerable people. We also review the potential and forecast economic aspects that climate change is likely to impose via its effects on working people, their families and their communities.
