    Abstract

    rofessor Susan Lillian OConnor (Fig. 1) gained her B.A. (Hons, 1st class) in archaeology from the University of New England in 1980 and her Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1991. She worked as a lecturer and researcher at UWA until 1994 and joined the Australian National University (ANU) in the same year as a Research Fellow in the Department of Prehistory, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, now the Department of Archaeology and Natural History. She was Head of Department between 2005 and 2012 and was promoted to Professor in 2008 and in 2012 was made an Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellow.
