    Abstract

The synthesis and optical properties of a class of highly fluorinated, photosensitive ormosils were analyzed using an aqueous sol-gel process. The refractive index, absorption and photosensitivity of ormosils was investigated to assess them for optical waveguide applications. The results of the study showed that ormosils performed best in terms of robustness and absorption, and had refractive index that closely matched with optical fibers.
