    Abstract

This article reflects my interest and attachment to the history and culture of Diyarbakır. Diyarbakır is an open museum not only with its five kilometres long walls that surround the city, but also with its mosques, hans, hamams and fountains mostly attached to the walls of houses and mosques. This article, therefore, is an outcome of this interest and attachments. This article is a study of the water conduits and the fountains of Diyarbakır based on my notes and photographs taken during my visits to the city in 1970s and 1990s. Detailed information on Diyarbakırs water conduits and fountains as well as the table and list of the fountains and also the photographs in the appendices may reflect the damage caused to the citys culture and monuments following the recent terror attacks.
