Abstract
IN HER LAST MAJOR SPEECH as Minister for Indigenous Affairs in December 2005, Amanda Vanstone raised the issue of the viability of outstation communities. These very small remote communities were established in the early 1970s as part of the outstations movement that saw people move out of the larger settlements and missions of the assimilation era.
