Abstract
A synthesis of multiport networks using a minimum number of resistors is presented. The method relies on a Gauss- factorization similar to M. Bayard's synthesis procedure. % State- space formulation of the synthesis problem is reviewed. A construction of a state- space realization for a prescribed symmetric impedance is developed with the aid of a Gauss factorization which is nonminimal in general, but is passive and used a minimal number of resistors. The constraint on the Gauss factorization imposed by symmetry is interpreted in state- space terms to give a reciprocal synthesis.
