Abstract
This work grew out of a residency at CMU University Chiang Mai as part of the CHAT: Exchange. The work was performative; over a period of 5 days I collected a piece of broken furniture from the street and bought things from markets that took my eye - often not knowing their true purpose or cultural meaning. I collected teak leaves from the faculty grounds. From my collection I created assemblages which resembled small alters for cultural offerings. I painted everything blue and scattered the teak leaves on the floor to refer to a passing of time. The first time i visited Chiang Mai was in 1990. The place has changed and stayed the same in that time. On my first visit many small cafes were painted what I call Chiang Mai Blue so to apply this colour to my installation evoked a past time a memory.
