Abstract
The predecessor of Philips Electronics Pty Ltd in Sydney was one of the largest Dutch companies that operated in Australia. In 1970 when it had 13,000 employees in various locations in Australia. The company was well-known for the branded lighting and consumer electronic goods which it produced in Australia. It arrived in 1912, established a subsidiary company in 1925 and expanded quickly after 1931 when it started production to become by 1970 one of Australia's largest producers of electronic goods. Reducing import tariffs required the company to close factories and shrink to become by the 2000s a company that largely wholesaled and marketed imported Philips products.
