Abstract
Piratas genéticos (Genetic Pirates) is a science fiction novel that explores the mind-body problem in a future where the epigenomic information in the human and animal genetic code has been fully decoded and used to create different types of human-animal chimeras, and coupled with the use of quantum cerebellums used to reincarnate biological entities. There are five sections in the novel, two corresponding to the Cartesian dualism paradigm (res cogitans and res extensa), two corresponding to gnostic tradition that survived in the theology of the New Testament (sõma pneumatikon and sõma psychikon), and a final section devoted to consciousness (syneidÄ“sis). The plot follows the mental inquisition of four characters (a super-sapiens, a homo-orang-utan, a neanderthal-homo and a homo-bonobo). All are officers of a Hominid Empire IVs terraforming spaceship bound to establish a new colony in the Lambda conglomerate. The inquisitors (the genetic pirates) are members of a homo-bee civilization expelled from the Hominid Empire III because of their illegal experiments attempting to improve hominid nature to create a hyper-stable society. The novel is also an stylistic exploration of the incorporation of Joyce stream of consciousness into science fiction. Context of the publication An exegesis of the techniques used in writing a section of the novel can be found in the essay «Ir más allá: El uso de la bibliografía científica y la consulta con científicos u otros expertos al escribir ciencia ficción», published in Revista Axxón, number 267: http://axxon.com.ar/rev/2015/11/ir-mas-alla-el-uso-de-la-bibliografia-cientifica-y-la-consulta-con-cientificos-u-otros-expertos-al-escribir-ciencia-ficcion-mario-daniel-martin/
