Abstract
The proliferation of weak and failing states in recent years has been accompanied by a significant expansion of the role of police as peacekeepers. The cross-cultural delivery of traditional community policing services, in settings that are often less than stable, is a formidable task. This paper introduces a number of essays that discuss the challenges faced by police in a peacekeeping role.
