    Abstract

This chapter presents a critical overview of the different ways in which primary socialization to emotions has been conceptualized in classical and contemporary sociology and anthropology. It argues that the emotional aspect of primary socialization, even if rarely worded as such, actually permeates most of the existing works addressing socialization. It consequently calls for a clarification of the role of emotions in primary socialization and present some leads in this direction.
