    Abstract

Recently, the Prime Minister of Fiji and the Police Commissioner have made statements to the effect that criminal activity in Fiji has been declining and that the incidence of crime in Fiji is lower than in Australia and New Zealand. Indeed, despite the reports of crime that feature large in the local media, the crime statistics do show a decline in the incidence of crime in recent years. But while the incidence of crime may be falling and may be lower than in Australia and New Zealand, this is not the full story.
