Abstract

Having opened at the Canberra Museum and Gallery in July 2015, 'Ink Remix' is a national touring exhibition exploring contemporary approaches to ink art by 14 artists from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. It has been curated by Sophie McIntyre, who has over 17 years experience as a curator and gallery director. After completing her PhD on issues of identity in post-martial law era Taiwanese contemporary art, she received a seed grant from the Australian National University's Centre on China in the World to begin exhibition research across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan - a rare opportunity for a curator today. The following is an edited conversation that took place in Canberra as the exhibition was being unveiled and which explores the curator's ongoing interest in 'the contemporary significance of ink'.
