Abstract

The reactions B11(d,p) B12 (ground state, Q value 1.14 MeV) and B11(d,p) B12* (first excited state, Q value 0.19 MeV) are studied in order to investigate the adequacy of the plane wave and distorted wave theories of ordinary stripping for low Q value reactions at low deuteron bombarding energies. Proton angular distributions are presented for deuteron energies of 700 keV and 1020 keV for the ground state reaction and for deuteron energies of 1020 keV for the excited state reaction. The distorted wave theory gives a good description of these results provided a spin-orbit interaction is assumed in both the initial and final channels. The plane wave theory was found to be inadequate. Data are also given for the angular distributions of alpha particles from the B11(d,α)Be9 (ground state) reaction for 700 keV and 1020 keV deuteron energies.
