    Abstract

Recumbent Circuit (2016) is and interactive electronic sound installation activated and controlled by the bodies of viewers. The work was commissioned and exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney in 2016 as a part of the Primavera exhibition curated by Emily Cormack. The installation includes five sound circuits, three that are wall mounted and invite the viewer to engage with their hands and two custom built chairs with embedded circuits for viewers to engage their feet. The circuits incorporate electronic synthesis with galvanic skin controls so that participants control the pitch of the sounds that each circuit creates with the conductivity of their hands or feet. The sounds are amplified into the gallery space through a multi-speaker system inviting the viewers to listen to their bodies and play with each other. The MCA is one of our countries most significant contemporary art museums with the Primavera exhibition having 100,000 visitors through the length of the exhibition that year.
