Abstract

Factorial row-column designs are often required for field trials in agricultural, horticultural and forestry research, but no general methodology is available to produce efficient designs. This paper describes a new objective function defined in such a way that varying degrees of emphasis can be given to main effects in the factorial situation. A computer program to generate such designs has been adapted from the simulated annealing algorithm of John and Whitaker. The program can also accommodate the Latinized row-column designs of Williams.
