Abstract

Measurements of ER cross sections were made for the reaction ¹⁶O + ²⁰⁴Pb, leading to the CN ²²⁰Th, at excitation energies between 30 and 50 MeV. It was shown that fusion with all the heavier projectiles is severely inhibited, and thus quasifission does compete with fusion at low ℓ values.
