    Abstract

Short Loops by Anna Madeleine is a multi-channel installation of hand-drawn stop-motion animations displayed across eighteen small video screens. The short, abstract loops of animation draw comparisons between the aesthetics of simplified and seamlessly repeating moving image seen in pre-cinematic optical toys that have become familiar again in lo-fi video formats designed for mobile devices, such as Instagram, Vine or GIF videos. The animations in Short Loops re-image cyclical motions from the vast scale of outer space to microscopic detail of crystal structures. Split over multiple screens, they experiment with how a narrative can play out through moving image that is limited in time but extended through space.
