    Abstract

Soft Synth 2 is an interactive electronic textiles installation involving textiles, electronics and sound. Here the controls for the pitch and activation of multichannel hand made audio synthesiser are interwoven in a single five meter panel of cotton and aluminium thread. Intonations in the weaving pattern represent different audio texture possibilities. Viewers are invited to touch the weaving and by exploring its tactility the conductivity of their skin activates and modulates different oscillations that are amplified in the space. The work was commissioned for an exhibition entitled 'Materials, Sounds + Black Mountain College' curated by Caleb Kelly at the public museum Black Mountain College Museum.
