    Abstract

In the world of this story, science has succeeded in shattering the notion that only plants can do photosynthesis, just as in the early 20th century (CE) science disproved the belief that only birds could fly. In the Sustainocene era (SE), the technology of global synthetic photosynthesis is engineered into every road and building to help them make clean fuel and food just from water, sun and air. This is revolutionising our relationships with each other and all forms of life on Earth. But, as we shall see, not all humans think those are good ideas. Indeed, some are prepared to use violence and murder to overturn them. This is true even though the events in this tale occur after the war that ended the Corporatocene era (CE) and almost terminated life on Earth.
