    Abstract

State –society dynamics in Morocco and Algeria are complex and multilayered and must be contextualized within the historical, political, and social trajectories of the two countries. These dynamics have evolved since the postcolonial era in diverse ways and forms that reflect the deep disillusionment of the masses with the state and its ruling elites and show the evolving agency of the people in challenging the state’ s authoritarianism
