Abstract

The properties of low-lying high-spin states in 204Hg and 205Hg have been investigated using the 204Hg(9Be, 9Be′)204Hg and 204Hg(9Be, 2α)205Hg reactions at a bombarding energy of 62 MeV. Decay properties for states up to an excitation energy of 3688 keV and spin of (8+) have been deduced for 204Hg, and up to an excitation energy of 2579 keV for 205Hg. The level schemes are compared with predictions of empirical shell-model calculations.
