N2 - Two tribes of the Mecopodinae are represented in Australia. Both are confined to the tropics. The Australia Mecopodini comprises a single genus Austromecopoda, Rentz et al., with four species that occur in grasses adjacent to forests occurs on both sides of the continent. The Sexavini is reppresented by a single species of Segestidea, a genus with many species to the north of Australia, some of which are of economic important because of the damage they cause to Coconuts. This genus will be dealt with in a future paper. The taxonomy, biology and distribution are discussed in detail. This is a continuation of the Monograph of Australian Tettigoniidae begun by the first author (see Rentz, 1985, 1993, 1995, Rentz et al. 2005. Approximately 70% of the Australian tettigoniid fauna remain to be described. It is now estimated to be in the area of 1500 species. This paper follows the protocols established in Rentz (1985).
