Abstract

The physical and chemical processes that occur during the subduction of two converging tectonic plates have significant consequences, contributing to both the growth of the continental crust and the chemical and thermal evolution of the Earth's interior. Based on recent research, the book presents a simple, current and comprehensive model to explain the dominant processes at work in subduction zones. It describes the physical characteristics and geochemical dynamics of subduction zones, arc magma generation, and the dynamics and flow in the mantle wedge. -from Publisher
