    Abstract

Treatment of the acetonides 1 and 2 with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of small amounts of water affords, in good yield, the corresponding cyclic hemiorthoesters 5 and 6, respectively. A single crystal X-ray analysis of compound 5 has been carried out.
