Abstract
Team training exercise was performed in collaboration with Lucy Quinn for the Pocket Holiday, a performance event hosted by Danny Wild at Canberra Contemporary Art Space in 2014. This is part of an ongoing series of performances where one element is the folding of a large origami object - in this case a paper crane. Just the way some dancers will take on a lead or follow role when dancing with a parter the performers in team training exercise worked as lead and follow. Hutch - the lead - initiated the crane folding exercise and Quinn followed, mirroring or supporting Hutch's movements in order to create the crane. Each of the performers were wearing a small data projector on their heads and projecting time-lapse footage of the first Apollo moon landing onto the paper as they folded. The performers did not speak to each other or make eye contact during the performance and the folding exercise was unrehearsed. They relied on body language and their awareness of each other through movement to communicate and share the act of creating the large folded paper object.
