    Abstract

Even before the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has ended, theres a new infectious disease to fear: Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS. MERS appeared three years ago in Saudi Arabia, probably after jumping from camels to their human handlers, and had mostly stayed there until last month, when it struck in South Korea. Within that month, MERS has caused more than 100 illnesses and at least 9 deaths in that country. Will it become an epidemic? Can it be contained?
