Abstract
Observations of metal-poor stars are crucial for our understanding of the chemical enrichment in the early Galaxy. In particular, chemical abundance ratios in these objects provide detailed insight into the properties and nature of the previous generation of stars. The goal of this talk was to provide an overview of the field, highlight the tremendous progress over the past few years, and offer an outlook on where we can expect new progress to be made.
