    Abstract

    This article explores the literary and cultural criticism of F. R. Leavis, so influential on the teaching of English literature from the 1930s to the 1970s, and recounts the story of the Leavisite regime briefly established by Sam Goldberg at the University of Sydney in the mid-1960s.
