Abstract

This chapter projects the concept of cultural landscapes into the realm of historic urban areas in the context of the Historic Urban Landscape paradigm and sets out historically how this happened and why. My purpose is to provide a broad conceptualisation of the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) concept and associated management concerns as set out in the UNESCO Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape (UNESCO 2011).
