    Abstract

This report provides projections on the mortality, morbidity and direct economic costs likely to arise from HBV infection in Western Australia (WA) over the decade2008 to 2017. These projections are derived from a Markov model of HBV infection and treatment developed for the purpose of producing national estimates of the mortality, morbidity and direct economic costs of HBV infection in Australia over this time period. In using the model to obtain estimates for WA, the initial prevalence of chronic HBV infection in 2008 and the annual incidence each year of the 10-year projection period have been estimated for that State, but all other parameter values from the original model have been retained.
