    Abstract

The lichen genus Paraparmelia is reduced to synonymy under Xanthoparmelia. The key characters of Xanthoparmelia include the cell walls containing Xanthoparmelia-type lichenan, the pored epicortex, eciliate margins, simple rhizines, small, ellipsoidal spores and bifusiform or rarely weakly fusiform or bacilliform conidia. Five new names are proposed: Xanthoparmelia aridella, X. colensoides, X. inconspicuella, X. rugulosella and X. xanthomelanella and 77 new combinations are made.
