    Abstract

The chapter analyses a set of magic lantern slides that were used on the Rev. W. H. Rainey of the Bible Society in Victoria in 1948-1949 to raise funds for the printing and distribution of bibles for Aboriginal people and New Guineans. It compares the representation of the work and challenges facing missionaries in these two areas. It appears that 1949 was the last time the slides were used, subsequently being replaced by films.
