Abstract

This paper briefly describes the process of rainfall infiltration into the soil surface. The distinction is drawn between non- ponding rain and ponding rain, and the theory appropriate to each is described. The simplification of the appropriate theories for field application is discussed.-S.Nortcliff

The application of soil physics to field problems offers much for soil conservation research. Recent developments in the theory of rainfall infiltration make it an area where such application will greatly assist both soil conservation earthwork design and practice.
