Abstract
This working paper analyses the role of the UN Security Council in building democracy and justice after conflict. It discusses the Security Council's mandate for undertaking peacebuilding, before exploring how the Council has sought to promote democracy and the rule of law through peacebuilding. The case study concludes by highlighting which strategies have worked and which haven’t in the Council's attempt to build democracy and the rule of law after conflict
