N2 - Parasitologists often wonder why colleagues from other biological disciplines dont see the parasites in the room: they are ubiquitous. Even though many are small and difficult to detect, their actions and impact are visible everywhere we look wherever there is life, there are parasites. Not surprising, since an estimated 40% of known species are parasitic [1]. Similarly, one might wonder why molecular parasitologists largely tend to ignore the topic of sex. Sex is one of lifes driving forces and since parasitism is such an abundant lifestyle, would it then not be logical to extensively explore the connection between sex and parasites?
